The bears have woken up at the Sanctuary

The bears have woken from their hibernating sleep at the ARCTUROS Sanctuary in Nimfeo and have been wondering outside their dens for several days!
Same as every year, the younger bears are the ones that ‘slept’ last and woke up first. Sandy, Mira and Baloo, the three bears that joined the Sanctuary from Albania also woke up early. They also chose to sleep in natural dens that were already built by other bears. Kyriacos and Manolis have also been quite active.
On the other hand, older bears such as Mitsos, Sasha and Alexandra were the last to wake up from their hibernating sleep and still spend most of their day in their dens.
Even though there was significant snow cover at the Sanctuary this year, snow has now melted and the bears emerging from their hibernation shows us that Spring is near.
Visitors may visit the Sanctuary on weekdays, except on Wednesday and during the weekend from 10:00 to 16:30 (Tour hours: 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00 and 16.30). The Shelter of Lupus in Agrapidies, Florina and the Information Centre for Bear in Nikios School in Nimfeo will also be open every weekend and on public holidays.
More information about visitors and appointment for schools at: (+30) 23860 41500.
